Junior Tigers Program – 2016 Term 1 Review
Well what a fantastic 4 months it has been for the Junior Tigers Golf Program and the Glenelg Golf Club junior program. Numbers have stayed at capacity through the first term of 2016 with a lot of familiar faces, but excitingly new participants have joined the Junior Tigers ranks.
In December 2015, Glenelg Golf Club was named the MyGolf Centre of the Month. That means we were recognised as the best Junior Golf facility throughout Australia.
In February, Jack Leonard was named MyGolfer of the Month. This is a huge honour for Jack to receive this award. Jack’s dedication and hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, with the 7 year old commonly seen around the short game area practicing after school.
In March, the Junior state team was announced with 3 of the 6 players coming from Glenelg Golf Club. Jackson Kalz, who was involved in Junior Tigers Clinics until he was playing off a 4 handicap, was selected in his first state team at the age of 16.
He is joined in the team by South Australian Amateur Champion and state team captain Lachlan Barker. Ben Layton rounds out the 3 Glenelg players. Ben and Lachlan have just turned 17 and hold very bright futures in golf.
The team, coached by Junior Tigers corrdinator Adrian Wickstein, departed on the 11th April 2016 to Tasmania. The South Australian team is also made up of Joe Hodgson (Kooyonga), Michael Coleman and Liam Georgiadis (Grange).
Thanks to the coaching staff at Glenelg Golf Club – Adrian Wickstein, Sarah King, Gareth Jones, Campbell Rawson and Shane Robinson.
