Junior Tigers Program – Term 1 2017 Review

2017 got off to a great start, with some fresh faces and some familiar ones. 56 Junior Tigers took place in the term 1 program, with 20 Junior Tigers on Wednesday night and 36 across two time slots on the Sunday.

The juniors took part in Long game, short game and putting practice, as well as measurable scoring tasks. There was on course play as well as course strategy, aiming to enhancing the knowledge of how to play in different conditions and different courses.

The Wednesday group were lucky to experience Japan’s best amateur golfers, as they were in town for a High Performance Training Camp with Head Coach Gareth Jones.  The team showed the juniors some long drives as well as having a quick chat and posing for a photo.

Well done to those who took part in the Junior Tigers sessions on Sunday morning before McMillan Shield.  McMillan Shield is a competitive teams event, where the Glenelg Juniors played against children from other clubs.

The Junior Tigers program has produced some great players in recent years, none other than this years State Junior Captain Jackson Kalz. Jackson started the Junior Tigers program in 2010 at the age of 10. He continued the clinics until he was off a 3 handicap and started playing in State ranking events

Jackson will lead the team in the National Championships as defending champions in early April. Glenelg has 4 representatives making up the team of 6, Jackson as Captain along with fellow Juniors, Jack Buchanan, Frank Vucic and Harry Burner.  The team will be coached once again by Junior Tigers coach Adrian Wickstein.

Sarah King will be heading to China as the Coach and Manager of the Australian Queen Sirikit team, where she will have the 3 best female Amateurs in Australia competing against the world’s best.

Exciting times ahead for our coaching team, past Junior Tigers and current Junior Tigers.

Keep an eye out on the scores from these events online or on the Glenelg Pro Shop Coaching Academy Facebook page.

The coaching team is looking forward to term 2, and we hope to see you on the range.

Adrian Wickstein, Sarah King, Gareth Jones, Sam Hughes, Campbell Rawson and Shane Robinson.
