Junior Tigers Program – Term 2 2016 Review

Well what a great time it has been for the Glenelg Golf Club and the Junior Tigers Golf Program in recent months. We have had new members join the program, and great success on course with the juniors that have been involved in the Junior Programs.

At the end of last term the State Junior Team embarked on the National Championships, with 3 Glenelg Members making up the 6 players. South Australia were successful, taking out the Championship. The team was made up of Glenelg’s Lachlan Barker (Captain), Ben Layton, Jackson Kalz and coached by Adrian Wickstein.

Lachlan Barker then represented Australia in the Malaysian Amateur. With rounds of 72, 74, 70, 71 Lachy was victorious in a playoff. A fantastic effort for a junior in an open age event. Lachy is now heading over to play the Japan Amateur and then on to America for the World Junior Amateur. Good luck Lachy.

In exciting times for our Junior Tigers Golf Program, we are creating a modified course for Junior Members. The course will consist of par 3’s, par 4’s and par 5’s, but at a much reduced distance.  This course will be rated by Golf SA, allowing those children the opportunity to gain and maintain a handicap and also go in competitions to enhance the understanding of the rules and scoring involved in golf. The course will be up and running for term 3.

We are looking forward to growing the Junior Tigers Golf Program and having more fun and interactive games for the children to play in term 3.

Good Golfing from the coaching team at Glenelg Golf Club – Adrian Wickstein, Sarah King, Sam Hughes, Gareth Jones and Shane Robinson.
