Lachlan Barker wins 2016 Club Championship

Lachlan Barker has taken out the 2016 Club Championship, beating Colin Coleman 10/8 in the 36 hole final.

Whilst the final result may seem comprehensive, the match itself was a high quality affair with Barker firing a 2-under par performance in the morning, only to hold a three hole lead over Coleman, who was able to keep Barker within his sights for most of the round.

However, it was the afternoon round that proved to be the most pivotal with Barker seemingly having his golf ball on a string, with only 12 putts through the final 10 holes of the game and winning five straight holes from the 6th, to eventually claim victory after rolling in an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-4 10th to win the hole and the Championship.

Barker’s win caps off a stunning year after taking out the Malaysian Amateur, finishing 3rd in the Australian Boys’ Amateur, being selected in both the Boys’ and Men’s SA state teams (including as Captain of the Boys’ State Team), and taking out both the Golf SA Junior and Senior Vardon trophies.

Barker is no doubt a star of the future and we look forward to following him as his career progresses when he moves to Iowa State University on a full golfing scholarship in mid-2017.
